Tips

When choosing fabrics for your handbag or tote, consider also looking for fabric, cording and trims in the Home Décor fabric department. There’s always some excellent choices there.

If you purchase dark red, dark blue or other dark fabrics, you may need to wash/iron the fabric before using so it doesn’t rub off on your clothing (ex: shoulder straps). After washing/ironing, consider using sizing (not spray starch) to give a nice finish to the fabric.

When choosing a lining color, light works better than dark so you can find items when the handbag is opened.

To make a professional looking bag, press your bag as you sew as indicated in the instructions. It also helps to interface your lining/pockets and make sure to press well when fusing/bonding fabrics/interfacing together.

Secure all ends at the beginning and end of stitching.
